Short Term Missions
To work at "Casa de Esperanza," Mission to Reach's House of Hope, is to take advantage of a tremendous opportunity to learn:
- about foreign missions,
- about serving in another culture,
- about God,
- about yourself.
Mission to Reach is looking for committed Christians who are ready to risk and learn more about God's global concerns for the world, about using their hands and feet for His glory, about truly loving people, about suffering for Christ.
A wide variety of events will take place throughout this camp. You may participate in many community activities and do a multitude of things. Mostly you'll be asked to be a part of a team of born-again believers who have open hearts, who are ready to give, to work hard, to listen and to humbly serve the Mexican people whom we love.
How do you become involved in Mission to Reach ministries? First, pray.
Then, if you feel God might be leading you to missions, contact our office.
We'll be happy to answer your questions and send you an application.
An Interest Form is available online. Shortly after applying, accepted
candidates receive helpful information about how to prepare for foreign
ministry and how to build a prayer and financial support base. Before
setting out on your assignment, you'll also be given specific information
about Mexico, including health consideratons, coping with culture shock,
building interpersonal relationships and working
cross-culturally. After you arrive at Casa de Esperanza, you'll learn more
about the area and its culture.
We ask for a high standard from those who come to minister in the name
of Jesus:
- Behavior, especially with the opposite sex, needs to honor the Lord at
all times. Standards for Mexican Christians are very different from those
who work in the tourist industry.
- This is a work project, and every member must be willing to work at whatever
is being done -- mix cement, lay blocks, dig, clean up, help in the kitchen,
etc. Everyone is expected to do their share, and nothing will be asked
of anyone that they cannot do. Each must be willing to work and cooperate
with the leadership provided.
- Skilled people need to be aware that things are done differently, that
we need not meet building code. Please be adaptable and flexible as we
work together to the glory of God.
- Unless married, there should be no emotional or physical involvement
or contact. Do not go into any rooms belonging to the opporite sex. No
dating or pairing off is permitted. It tends to distract from the real
purpose of the team. Not pairing off offers a better relationship with
other team members and more fellowship. Always stay with the group.
- No smoking, alcoholic beverages or drugs. No T-shirts that display cigarettes,
alcohol products, drugs, rock groups, obscene or suggestive language,
and no tank tops.
- Giving things away to individuals in the community where you're working can sometimes cause problems. We have seen fights and broken relationships over things given with the best intentions. So do not give away hats, bandannas, gloves and personal clothing to individuals.
